Cat Matlala Implicated in #MadlangaCommission Corruption Scandal

The name Cat Matlala is dominating South African social media after being heavily mentioned during the ongoing #MadlangaCommission hearings, which are investigating large-scale corruption networks linked to government contracts and political funding.

Matlala, reportedly tied to controversial businessman Brown Mogotsi, has been accused in online discussions of playing a central role in questionable financial dealings. Allegations suggest that funds were funneled through specialist companies and intermediaries, with some users claiming connections to the sealed CR17 campaign bank statements that supported President Cyril Ramaphosa’s rise to power.

One user remarked: “If Cat Matlala paid ANC via Brown Mogotsi, it explains why CR17 had to be sealed.” Another added: “With Cat Matlala & Brown Mogotsi implicated at the #MadlangaCommission, legal experts say the Commission should subpoena the sealed CR17 bank statements.”

The controversy gained further traction after the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) uncovered a staggering R2 billion fraud scandal at Tembisa Hospital, which many online commentators linked to the same network of syndicates under investigation.

While Matlala has not yet issued a public response, critics argue that the unfolding revelations could expose deeper political and financial ties at the heart of South Africa’s governance.

For now, the commission faces growing public pressure to dig deeper into the alleged connections between state contracts, private networks, and high-level political campaigns.
